According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, starting after the April 4 drawing, there will be a “new version” of the Mega Millions.
The first game of this new prize structure will be held at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, and will include an increased ticket price from $2 to $5.
With the increased ticket price, updates to the Mega Millon will reportedly offer players bigger prizes, a larger starting jackpot, improved chances of winning, a built-in multiplier, and no breakeven prizes.
The Pennsylvania Lottery says, for example, that matching the five white balls will no longer result in a $1 million prize thanks to a built-in multiplier that will range from 2x to 10x the prize.
The new game also guarantees players will take home more than their ticket cost, with the minimum winning prize being twice the price of a play.
“All of us at the Pennsylvania Lottery have felt the excitement that our players feel when a Mega Millions® jackpot run offers the opportunity to win a life-changing prize. That excitement is going to grow exponentially with the changes that are debuting this week for Mega Millions,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “These important updates for the game will also make a real difference for the older Pennsylvanians who benefit from Lottery proceeds. We’re going to see more funding to help our seniors with things like free meals, a ride to their favorite senior center, or help with their prescription drug costs.”
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
