Defending champion Lottie Woad of England, a junior at Florida State University, shared the 36-hole lead at -9. She began her round in the final pairing of the day with Kiara Romero of the United States, a sophomore at the University of Oregon at 10:20 a.m.

“Obviously I want to try and win, but I think just being in contention the last few holes would be a pretty good goal,” Woad said after her practice round at Augusta National on Friday.

“I know there’s a lot of us at the top of the leader board,” Romero said. “So I’m not really worried about that. I’m just kind of going out there to play my game and have fun out there.”

Behind Woad and Romero on the leaderboard are nine players within five shots of the lead, including first round leader Megha Ganne (-8), a junior from Stanford University making her fifth appearance in the tournament.

“It definitely doesn’t make it any less intimidating,” Ganne said Friday. “I definitely have more layers of knowledge than I do from prior years, so that’s cool. But still going to go into it with kind of the same eyes as usual (Saturday).
