BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One week after crawfish prices hit the lowest levels of the season, they continue that downward trend heading into the first weekend of April.
An improvement in crawfish catch caused prices at retail to drop another 40 cents per pound. People can expect to pay an average of $3.24 per pound for live crawfish and $5.69 for boiled crawfish.
“This is the lowest prices have been all season, and they’ve hit that sweet spot where you can easily find crawfish under $3 per pound, or around $100 per sack,” Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App, said.
King said medium-sized live crawfish can be found priced under $3 per pound, or $100 per sack, in every metro area of Louisiana. This time last year, live crawfish averaged around $4.47 per pound.
“We’re now in the heart of crawfish season — when crawfish should continue to be plentiful and a good size,” King said. “We’re keeping our eye on the cold front coming through this week, as cooler weather can sometimes decrease the supply of crawfish as they burrow to stay warm. But as long as there’s sunshine, we should be good.”
