St. Mary Parish inmate who escaped job site now in custody

UPDATE, 4/3/25, 2:30 p.m.: Chad Toups has been found and is now in custody, officials said.

ORIGINAL STORY: BERWICK, La. (KLFY) — Deputies are searching for an escaped inmate after he walked off an assigned job at a business in Berwick, authorities said.

According to deputies, Chad Toups, 49, of Morgan City, was incarcerated for charges of theft, parole violation and criminal trespass.

Toups was last seen after he reported to officials this morning by supervisors at his work job, deputies said.

If anyone has any information on Toups’ whereabouts they are asked to contact St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960.
