Michael Bryan Sudbury, 57, is facing a second-degree felony sexual abuse charge as well as misdemeanor abuse of a vulnerable adult and lewdness.
According to charging documents, the alleged assault was caught on camera through a nanny camera the victim’s family had previously set up. Detectives said the videos show Sudbury multiple times, once with his “pants open and tucking his shirt back into his pants.” Another instance allegedly showed Sudbury with his “hand near his groin.”
When asked by an administrator about his actions, Sudbury allegedly reported that he assisted the victim in removing lidocaine patches from her shoulder. He then helped massage the victim’s shoulder and back, which he said was at the victim’s request.
Sudbury was arrested at his home in Moab shortly after evidence was collected. Police say they found a report from Jan. 3, 2025, that showed previous allegations against Sudbury for inappropriately touching a patient.
Sudbury reportedly refused to complete a written statement about what happened and requested an attorney when questioned by detectives.
ABC4.com reached out to Canyonlands Care Center for a statement and is still waiting to receive a response at the time of publication.
