KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — Local and state officials continue to assess weather-related hazards on Thursday after high-speed wind gusts and torrential rain fell overnight.
Gov. Beshear posted on social media around 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, asking the public to be safe and take the threat of flooding seriously, especially in western parts of the state.
Around 9:30 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that flooding had overtaken Valley Hill at Grundy Home Road, with water carrying downed trees through the area.
Jessamine County Emergency Management (JCEM) posted a video from earlier Thursday morning, observing the storms as they tore a path across Kentucky overnight.
“No damage was observed or reported from this Tornado Warned Storm near Keene moving northeast this morning,” JCEM wrote.
In Jeffersontown, police officers warned of multiple roads and intersections where power lines and trees had fallen Thursday morning. Wind speeds reportedly got severe enough to damage a warehouse in the area, causing walls to collapse and damaging nearby vehicles.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, the London City Fire Department posted on Facebook that Tobacco Road and parts of East 4th Street were closed due to high water.
A map of roads that have been closed due to weather hazards can be found at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet website.
As heavy rain, frequent lightning, and high wind stay throughout the week, the FOX 56 Weather Authority will be tracking this system. Download the FOX 56 Weather Authority App for the latest weather updates.
