The event commemorates the victims of one of the most tragic genocides in human history. This year’s guest speaker will be Kathy Kacer, the daughter of Holocaust survivors and an award-winning author. Kacer has written over 30 books focusing on the Second World War and the Holocaust. She also lectures at colleges and universities about how to teach sensitive material to young people, emphasizing the importance of remembering the Holocaust and keeping its memory alive.
Since 1984, an annual remembrance service for Holocaust victims has been held in Northwest Louisiana. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host this year’s service. The event chair, Father Michael Cannon, emphasized the importance of speaking out about the Holocaust. “We must remember what happened to millions of innocent people who were tortured and murdered. We must remember how the will to power tried to extinguish the light of innocence,” said Cannon. He also noted that people must actively remember this difficult chapter in human history.
Eleven candles will be lit in memory of the eleven million lives lost during the Holocaust. The Holocaust Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday, April 27, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, starting at 3:00 p.m. The church is inviting everyone to come, regardless of their religious background.
