Actor Val Kilmer reigned as King Bacchus in 2009

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)—The Krewe of Bacchus is remembering when actor Val Kilmer reigned as Bacchus during their Mardi Gras parade back in 2009.

The Bacchus parade rolls every Sunday before Mardi Gras on the Uptown parade route. it is named after Bacchus who was the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility.

In an interview with WGNO the movie star spoke on New Orleans’ recovery after Hurricane Katrina.

He said, “First time I came after Katrina there was a lot of hardship. It is so encouraging to see how fast the community can rally.”

Val Kilmer is best known for his roles in “Willow,” “Tombstone,” “Batman Forever,” “The Saint,” and “Top Gun.”

Kilmer died on Tuesday from pneumonia in Los Angeles.
