Woman found dead in South Side home Tuesday afternoon: CFD

CHICAGO – An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead in a South Side home Tuesday afternoon.

The Chicago Fire Department said firefighters were sent to the 9400 block of South Lowe Avenue near West 95th Street in Washington Heights for reports of a house fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they found one person dead inside the home, according to investigators.

Chicago police officers arrived a short time later and roped off the area.

The Cook County Medical Examiner later identified the woman as 88-year-old Gwendolynn Smith.

SkyCam 9 flew over the scene and did not see any smoke or flames coming from the home.

No other information was released.
