Infant critical, 4 others hurt in near west side crash

INDIANAPOLIS – An infant was in critical condition and four people were taken to the hospital after a serious Wednesday morning crash on the near west side.

It happened around 5:15 a.m. near West Walnut Street and North Tibbs Avenue, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Video from the scene showed the crash involved a pair of vehicles. Police cars and an ambulance responded.

The initial investigation found a maroon vehicle was heading south on Tibbs and a silver car was headed north when the two vehicles collided.

Four people were inside the silver vehicle while one person was inside the maroon one, police said.

Four patients went to area hospitals after complaining of pain. An infant was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, according to IMPD.

Both drivers will undergo a blood draw, which is standard procedure in serious crashes.

IMPD said the 600 block of North Tibbs Avenue would remain closed for “several hours” for crash reconstruction and investigation.
