Florida woman guilty of embezzling from New Orleans car dealership

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A Florida woman was found guilty on March 26 after she allegedly embezzled money from a New Orleans car dealership that she worked at between November of 2018 and May of 2023.

According to the United States Department of Justice, 36-year-old Sehrelina Tardo, of Tallahassee, Florida, was an accountant at a car dealership in New Orleans during the time period in which the crimes were committed.

Tardo reportedly embezzled customer cash down payments and deposits, taking money for herself and hiding the act by creating fake journal entries of customer transactions on her employer’s books and records.

As part of her guilty plea agreement, Tardo agreed to pay $535,750.77 in restitution to the dealership.

Her sentencing is scheduled for June 25, and could include up to 20 years in prison, followed by up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000 and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
