INDIANAPOLIS — Citizens Energy said water pressure on the city’s east side “should be returning to normal.”

Water access and water quality issues have been reported by numerous east side residents since a massive water main break disrupted the flow of water to a large portion of Indy’s east side last Thursday. A boil order

was issued in the aftermath of the water main break that was in effect for two days and required east siders to boil water in order to safely ingest it.

The water main burst on Thursday morning in the area of 22nd Street and Dr. Andrew J Brown Avenue and caused a host of problems. On top of many homes temporarily losing access to water, streets were closed and asphalt buckled from a flood of water.

The Community Justice Center closed down for the day due to the break. This included court cases being closed and postponed. Several health clinics were also closed due to safety concerns from a lack of safe water.

But Citizens Energy said water should be returning to normal now on the east side of the city after days of repair work. The road remains closed, however, at the sight of the water main break.

“While the water main repair has now been finalized, travelers should continue to detour around the construction zone as work continues to clean up, repave, and reopen the roadway,” Citizens said.
