Baton Rouge Police investigating 2 deadly Tuesday evening shootings

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that left two people dead on Tuesday.

While on the scene of the first shooting, Louisiana First News’ photographer, Brett Landrews, witnessed another shooting while other people and police units were in the area.

“It was a lot going on,” said Landrews. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, and when I arrived at the scene, it was a regular shooting scene. All I heard out of the blue were shots ringing, and that was just out of the ordinary.”

Autopsies are pending in both cases.

La Margie Avenue shooting

BRPD officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 12200 block of La Margie Avenue around 6:45 p.m. that left one man dead. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Samuel Jackson, 25, on Wednesday morning.

Police said a motive and suspect in this case are unknown at this time.

Avenue E shooting

Police said shortly after the first shooting, shots rang out in the 10000 block of Avenue E around 7:45 p.m. Officers confirmed one man was pronounced dead. The coroner’s office identified the victim as James Williams, 80, on Wednesday morning.

Police said a motive and suspect in this case are unknown at this time.

Police seek tips in both shooting cases

Investigations are ongoing into both shootings. Anyone with information is asked to contact BRPD at 225-389-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
