Winnebago Park District closes public restrooms due to ongoing vandalism

WINNEBAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — The Winnebago Park District announced Monday that public restrooms will remain locked due to ongoing vandalism.

“We regret that the actions of a few have led to this closure, but the park does not have the resources to continuously clean up intentional messes and repair severe damage,” the park district said in a statement.

“Recent incidents — such as toilets being pulled from the floor and the porcelain smashed, soiled clothing and hygiene products being left on the floors, and trash being dumped into urinals — have made this step necessary,” the district continued.

“We hope adding police patrol as well as cameras will help deter this activity when we are able to reopen the restrooms,” it added.

The Winnebago Park District operates the Dylan Mastroianni Memorial Playground, at 304 E McNair Road.
