Victory over Puget Sound comes with 3 three-set singles wins

PORTLAND, Ore. (GFU ATHLETICS) — The Bruins bounced back from their close 3-4 loss to Cal Tech on Saturday, winning 5-2 over the Puget Sound Loggers 

Doubles play was one for the books as the Bruins won 2-1 to secure the doubles point. Puget Sound got off to a hot start with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 match as Lars Schmassmann and Ikuho Ebisu couldn’t quite get it done. Luis Hernandez and Jackson Whittaker bounced right back, though, as they took their match 6-4 to even it up at one apiece. After the No. 2 match was tied at fives, 

Zach Moore and Keita Shoji came in clutch, winning the final two games and giving the Bruins the doubles point. 

The singles matches were slightly different for the Bruins, as both Schmassmann and Ebisu scratched. Moore got the nod at the No. 1 spot, but took a little while to settle into the match. He dropped set one 1-6 before bouncing back 6-2, 7-5 to take down Jason Rowe. Two other matches also went the full three sets, with Shoji and Hernandez getting it done to seal the match for the Bruins.

Shoji moved up to the two spot, coming up clutch and winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Hernandez was the only three-set winner to win the first set, taking down Trent Beckman 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to secure the win as the four. Whittaker picked up a clean victory 6-4, 6-2 to secure the fith point for the Bruins as the No. 3 singles, and Joseph Vece rounded out the lineup in the No. 5 spot, losing 6-0, 6-3. Due to the two scratches, the Bruins forfeited the final match in the No. 6 spot, giving the Loggers a free singles victory.
