According to a news release from the Hendricks Commercial Properties, the south block of Circle Centre Mall – bordered by Illinois and Meridian Streets as well as Maryland and Georgia Streets – will be closed, as well as the skywalk connecting the mall to the Omni Severin Hotel. The release said all tenants in this part of the mall have vacated as the redevelopment begins.
This comes after Hendricks Commercial Properties officially acquired the Circle Centre Mall in April 2024, transforming the mall into an open, pedestrian-friendly environment. The group previously announced a $600 million redevelopment of the mall that is expected to bring 400,000 square feet of restaurant, retail and entertainment space, along with 100,000 square feet of office space and 300 residential units, to the site.
“Our goal is to create the true heart of the city—a place that brings energy to downtown Indianapolis every day, not just during major events,” Rob Gerbitz, the CEO of Hendricks Commercial Properties. said in the release. “We’re transforming a traditional enclosed mall into an open, pedestrian-friendly destination that fosters connection, activity, and a vibrant urban culture. As we navigate this redevelopment, we appreciate the community’s patience and support. This project is about shaping the future of downtown and creating new opportunities for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
Officials said in the release that the mall’s main concourse, food court and access to the World of Wonders parking garage will remain open. The project is expected to be completed in two phases, with the first scheduled to be complete in 2030.
