Man who calls himself ‘Billy the Kid’ threatened to cut off judges’ heads, court docs reveal

MUNCIE, Ind. — A Selma man who refers to himself as “Billy the Kid” allegedly threatened to cut off judges’ heads if not released from jail. The man’s intimidating tongue was the reason he was behind bars in the first place after allegedly threatening to shoot both his cousin and sheriff’s deputies just days before turning his ire on Delaware County judges.

William “Billy” Dalton Jr., 58, is currently being held on upwards of nine preliminary charges of felony intimidation spanning two separate cases.

According to court documents, Dalton’s first threats were aimed at his cousin on March 27. Dalton was reportedly angry that his cousin wouldn’t buy him a camper and sent various threatening messages threatening to “blow your g**d*** head the f*** off” if his cousin didn’t “do wtf I say.”

“Vengeance is mine mine mine, sayeth the Kid. Romans 13:4.” Dalton reportedly messaged his cousin.

The cousin told police officers that Dalton was “crazy” and feared he’d follow through on the threat.

Deputies tracked down and arrested Dalton on March 18, but his encounter with deputies didn’t go smoothly.

According to the sheriff’s department, Dalton was found inside a black Chevrolet Siverado parked on property on County Road North 600 East. Deputies were warned Dalton may be armed and ended up having to bust out the pickup’s window in order to see inside due to the windows being covered and posing a danger for deputies.

“You have no rights over me here,” Dalton reportedly yelled at the deputies. “I will shoot you!”

Deputies drew their pistols and were able to take Dalton into custody without injury. A 9mm Glock handgun was reportedly found next to him in the backseat of the pickup. Deputies said the gun was loaded.

Dalton’s threats didn’t stop here. On March 31, while meeting with the Delaware County Probation Department, Dalton allegedly became agitated and started threatening judges.

Referring to himself as “Billy the Kid,” Dalton claimed he was “above everyone else other than Jesus” and said he’d cut off judges’ heads if they didn’t release him from jail.

The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet filed any official charges in either of Dalton’s cases.
