After a resident in Jackson alerted police that her AC unit had been stolen, officers tracked the unit thanks to a tracking device the resident had installed. They discovered a large amount of AC units and other stolen items at a storage facility on Highway 80 in West Jackson.
Police said the value of the stolen items is estimated to be upwards of $20,000. Police said anyone who wants to retrieve their items should contact the Jackson Police Department (JPD) with proof of purchase, serial number and identification.
“We would ask residents that if they are concerned or believe that they, especially if they own rental properties, and they’re trying to do updates or, you know, remodeling to put security measures on their homes and put cameras in their homes or around their properties,” said Captain Chakita Childs, with JPD.
Police said they have a person of interest in the case, and it’s an open investigation.
