The program is open to adults and is designed to address mental health trends by providing free teletherapy services to underserved rural communities. According to the National Rural Health Association (NRHA), suicide rates are nearly 50% higher in rural areas compared to urban areas.
The association also noted that rural areas experience a severe lack of access to and availability of the full range of behavioral health care services along with technology barriers impacting telehealth visits. These challenges contribute to a more vulnerable and resource-poor rural population than urban peers.
The program will be run on a rolling basis until June 30. Licensed mental health professionals will offer eight free counseling sessions in collaboration with Soundminds Counseling.
