Dozens gather outside State Capitol for Transgender Day of Visibility

(WHTM) — An event intended to celebrate our differences has become a rally to fight back.

Dozens gathered outside the State Capitol for the “Transgender Day of Visibility”.
The observance began 16 years ago to uplift the trans community, raise awareness, and advocate for civil rights as the federal government is now removing mention of trans people on government websites and passports. This year’s tone has shifted to a call of “never going back.”

“As we go forward, we know we have to meet the moment, and that means standing up for what we believe in and we believe in a future where all Pennsylvanians are treated with respect,” said Sen. Amanda Cappelletti (D).

Transgender Americans make up less than 1% of the U.S. population.
