Gregory Baker Jr. was arrested by the Bloomington Police Department on Saturday. He is currently being held at Monroe County Jail on preliminary felony charges of intimidation, criminal recklessness and pointing a firearm.
According to police, officers were called to the 1400 block of W. Illinois Court on report of a shooting. Witnesses told officers that a suspect, whom police believe to be Baker Jr., approached a group of individuals near the playground and started exchanging threats with the group.
The verbal altercation turned into a physical fight, according to witnesses, until Baker retrieved a handgun and pointed it at several people. Baker is accused of firing multiple rounds at two individuals who were attempting to flee the park.
According to police, investigators uncovered video surveillance footage from the area that corroborated the witnesses account of the shooting.
Baker was arrested later at a residence on W. 13th Street.
Charges have not yet been officially filed in this case. The prosecutor’s office makes final charging decisions.
