Players arrived and registered on Monday, with several taking the opportunity to hone their skills on the practice range at Champions Retreat. Defending champion Lottie Woad, a junior at Florida State University and ranked No. 1 in the Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), was one of the first on the range.
The fourth annual “Golf With Us” clinic, normally held for local junior golfers at Champions Retreat on Monday of tournament week, was moved to the Augusta Boys and Girls Club due to inclement weather in the area Monday afternoon. Among the ANWA participants in attendance were Kiara Romero and Megha Ganne.
“We’ve definitely been in their shoes before, and we had a lot of people that we looked up to,” said Romero, ranked No. 8 in the WAGR and making her second ANWA appearance. “To think of myself as one of those people that I used to look up to is pretty nice, and I want to teach them a few things and give them some advice and inspiration that I got from others.”
“No matter what level you’re at, it’s a really cool sport to have and a skill you should try to pick up,” said Ganne, ranked No. 12 in the WAGR and making her fourth ANWA appearance. ” I hope one of them walks away inspired to play golf.”
Tuesday night will culminate with the annual Chairman’s Dinner at Augusta National Golf Club.
