UPDATE: Dothan students injured after suspected tornado hits school
DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A suspected tornado hit the downtown area of Dothan, Alabama, Monday afternoon, damaging a portion of Dothan Preparatory Academy.

Dothan City School officials confirmed to WDHN that 5 students sustained minor and moderate injuries when the severe weather hit the school. Two of students were transported to the hospital. The other three students did not require transport to a hospital.

All students and staff have been accounted for and students were evacuated to the Doug Tew Recreation Center. Parents will be able to pick students up from the Doug Tew Center, and buses will not be run from DPA.

Witness video and photos from the scene show severe damage to the DPA building, property, and surrounding woods. Several trees are down and uprooted in the area and debris is in the roads.

Several windows were blown out and the back portion of the building, around where the school’s library is, sustained damage.

Authorities tell WDHN there have been reports of roof and structural damage to the school, possibly to the gym.

Dothan Police and Dothan City School officials are on the scene.
