MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie mother of five was arrested over the weekend after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at her daughter’s head.

April R. Bayer, 45, was booked Sunday into the Delaware County Jail on seven felony charges after being arrested at a Muncie apartment. She is now being held on a $35,000 bond.

Muncie police crews were called around 4 p.m. Sunday to a home on N. Wheeling Avenue for a woman making threats with a gun. The caller told 911 dispatch her mother had pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot her.

The victim told officers that her mother – identified as Bayer – had tapped her on the head with a loaded gun during an argument at Bayer’s apartment. The daughter said she and her mom were fighting about an incident a few nights prior where Bayer had recklessly shot that same gun.

While verbally arguing in front of her four juvenile kids, Bayer reportedly pulled out a handgun and waved it at her daughter. A witness told officers Bayer later “charged” the gun by putting a live round in the chamber and pressing the barrel at her daughter’s head.

Police said they were able to safely get all four juvenile children out of the apartment before going inside and taking Bayer into custody without incident.

She was then booked into jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Battery with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Pointing a Firearm – Level 6 Felony
  • Neglect of a Dependent – Level 6 Felony
    • Four counts

Jail records show Bayer’s bond was set Monday at $35,000. Online court records have not yet been updated to reflect an initial hearing date in her case.
