Milwaukie driver facing DUII after fleeing hit-run crash which injured 1

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Milwaukie driver is facing DUII and other charges after police say he injured another driver in a hit-run crash, then fled the scene Saturday night.

Just after 9 p.m., officers responded to the 6700 block of Southeast Harmony Road on report of a crash involving two vehicles.

Officials said witnesses reported the vehicle responsible for the crash was leaving the scene and while enroute, officers found it near the intersection of Southeast Linwood Avenue and Southeast Harmony Road with “heavy front-end damage.”

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Fredy Sales Cardona, continued to drive away while officers attempted to stop him.

Police caught up to Cardona at an apartment complex near the 12500 block of Southeast Linwood Avenue, where officials said Cardona hit a parked vehicle and was blocked in by police cars. When Cardona tried to escape on foot, police took him in to custody.

Officials said they learned Cardona caused the crash by driving into the oncoming lane and hitting the other car head-on. The victim was taken to a hospital with “significant but non life threatening injuries,” authorities said.

Cardona was taken to the Clackamas County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, hit and run, attempting to elude a police officer on foot, as well as attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle. But police say there are additional charges under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Milwaukie police.
