Four injured in head-on collision on Highway 84

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Four people were injured during a head-on vehicle collision in the Pine Belt, officials said.

The crash occurred on Highway 84 East just inside the Covington County line near the Hebron community in Jones County just before 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.

When volunteer firefighters from Jones County responded to the scene, they found a Mazda sedan in the median and a Toyota Rav 4 on the south side of the highway. A witness stated that one of the vehicles was traveling west in the eastbound lanes.

Officials said the driver of the Toyota required extrication from the vehicle. The Mazda’s driver sustained what appeared to be critical injuries. The driver of the RAV 4 also sustained what appeared to be critical injuries, and the two passengers had moderate to minor injuries.

The crash will be under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).
