Tulane men’s basketball coach Ron Hunter provides offseason updates, addresses UNT rumor

UPTOWN – Tulane head men’s basketball coach Ron Hunter provided some updates on the Green Wave as his team prepares for its College Basketball Crown matchup with USC in Las Vegas next week, including an update on the online rumors connecting him with the North Texas opening.

The Tulane men’s basketball X account released a video statement of Hunter expressing his intentions to stay.

“It was getting out of control,” Hunter said. “We’re in a critical time with our recruiting of our guys so I wanted to put a stop to that. Had to put a statement out that way.”

Tulane guard and leading scorer, Rowan Brumbaugh, also addressed where he currently stands with the program.

“I love it here and there’s nothing more from a people or basketball school perspective that I’d want, it’s more of a financial thing at the end of the day,” Brumbaugh said. “When you look back five years from now do you regret not taking advantage of a big opportunity? I love it here and there’s nothing more Tulane can do for me at the end of the day.”

Hunter said he’s confident Brumbaugh will be back next season, but pointed out that you never know what can happen. He also confirmed that guard Mari Jordan took his name out of the portal on Friday and will return next season.

“Mari never, ever wanted to go,” Hunter said. “I usually don’t bring you back if you put your name in (the portal), but these are circumstances I’m willing to bend, and I like Mari.”

Friday morning, guard/forward Kam Williams announced his commitment to Kentucky.

“I talked to the coaches at Kentucky, told them he’s a great kid and wished them all the luck,” Hunter said.

Forward Kaleb Banks is another big piece from this year’s group in the portal. You can watch Hunter and Brumbaugh’s full media availability from Friday below. WATCH:
