Cloudy Utah skies with warm temperatures ahead of cold front moving in

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Thursday, Utah! Our high-pressure ridge that brought us all the nice weather this week has moved to the east, leading to increasing southerly winds, and clouds that are on the increase across the state.

Our Thursday afternoon will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies and another well above-average temperature day. Highs should warm into the mid to upper 70s along the Wasatch Front and into the low to mid 80s for southwest Utah.

A cold front will move across the Beehive state Thursday evening bringing a chance for a few quick downpours for folks in the Cache Valley, Salt Lake, and Ogden Valleys.

A few northern mountain snow showers will also be possible. The precip should not last long with most of the activity out of here before sunrise on Friday.

Our Friday will feature some big changes to our temperatures. Daytime highs on Friday will only be in the 50s across the Wasatch Front Friday afternoon with highs only in the lower 70s for SW Utah.

The day will feature mostly cloudy skies, but rain chances will be very isolated in nature. A quick-moving afternoon shower or two will be possible for areas of eastern Utah, but most will just see clouds during the day.

The main part of the storm system that will impact Utah will arrive on Saturday. This will be the day we will see a decent chance for valley rain and mountain snow throughout the day.

Rainfall amounts will generally average 0.25″ or less across northern Utah, with a few inches of snow possible for the mountains, especially areas above 6500FT.

Sunday will be the pick-day of the weekend with partly cloudy skies and mainly dry conditions across Utah. Highs will remain close to average with highs in the 50s along the Wasatch Front and near 70 for SW Utah.

Another storm system will rotate east into the area to kick off next week. Looks like isolated showers will be possible on Monday afternoon with a better chance for more widespread rain and snow showers on Tuesday into Wednesday. Temperatures will remain near normal during this period.

The active pattern may continue with another storm system by the end of next week.

Stay tuned!
