Woman charged in connection with slaying of Louisville corrections officer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Louisville woman has been charged in connection with the February 2025 fatal shooting of a Louisville corrections officer.

According to an arrest citation, around 10:32 a.m. on Feb. 16, the police responded to a call that someone had been shot. A man, later identified as Officer Michael Wehdah, was found “obviously deceased.”

On March 25, Kristy Brumley, 35, admitted to the police that she had led Wehdah to the location where he was shot and then took his phone and vehicle so that she could hide and/or destroy evidence, according to the citation.

“Officer Michael Wehdah’s death is a devastating loss to his family, loved ones, and our entire community. We are committed to ensuring justice for Officer Wehdah, and this arrest marks a crucial step toward this goal. My thoughts remain with his family as we work to hold all responsible parties accountable. We will continue to do everything in our power to keep our community safe and bring justice to those who serve it,” Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department said in a statement Wednesday afternoon

LMPD announced on Facebook that Brumley’s arrest comes on the heels of “an extensive investigation” and confirmed that Wehdah’s death shook the Louisville Metro community.

The commander of LMPD Homicide commended the investigator’s efforts, saying,

“The dedication and professionalism shown by the men and women of the LMPD Homicide Unit have been exemplary throughout this investigation. While today’s arrest represents significant progress, the work is not over. We will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that all involved in Officer Wehdah’s tragic death face the consequences of their actions. Justice will prevail for Officer Wehdah and his family.”

Brumley was booked into the Oldham County Detention Center and is being held on a pair of $250,000 cash bonds, according to court records.
