Warsaw man allegedly shot in the air, threatened to shoot police before he was killed

WARSAW, Ky. (FOX 56) — State police said its Special Response Team (SRT) deployed Thursday morning to a trailer park in Gallatin County in response to a man allegedly firing a gun outside and inside his home before he was reportedly shot and killed by law enforcement.

It happened around 4:45 a.m., according to Kentucky State Police (KSP), where troopers were asked to help the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office at a trailer park where a man was reportedly shooting in the air outside his home.

According to KSP, the trailer park was evacuated, and SRT was called in to negotiate with the man, 54-year-old James E. Walter of Warsaw.

Walter allegedly continued shooting inside his home and threatened law enforcement, investigators stated.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Authorities said Walter eventually opened the door and “presented his firearm.” That’s when state police said, “Members of the KSP SRT engaged Mr. Walter” before he was killed.

According to KSP, there were no other injuries.

The shooting investigation remains ongoing.
