ST. TAMMANY PARISH (WGNO) — Additional charges have been added in the case surrounding the death of a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s sergeant killed on March 23.
In an attempt to stop the vehicle, Candies deployed a spike strip on Interstate 10 near the Oak Harbor exit when STPSO deputies say he was fatally hit by Waughtal.
Waughtal also reportedly caused a collision with a New Orleans Police Department Officer once the chase crossed parishes.
He was originally arrested for aggravated flight, first-degree murder and attempted first degree murder. Other passengers in the car were 17-year-old Mason Paul Eugene Fischer and 17-year-old Michael Emanuel Lanier were also booked on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
On Thursday, St. Tammany Parish deputies added kidnapping to Fischer’s and Waughtal’s list of charges, after deputies learned they allegedly refused to stop and let out two female passengers during the chase.
Fischer who was released on bond on March 26, was rebooked for second-degree kidnapping. Waughtal was also rebooked and is being held without a bond.
