According to its announcement, South Laurel High School met the “rigorous” standards in all nine performance areas following an extensive assessment. These areas include:
- Student focus and support
- School organization and culture
- Challenging standards and curriculum
- Active teaching and learning
- Technology and integration
- Professional community
- Leadership and educational vitality
- School, family, and community partnerships
- Indicators of success
The London high school is recognized among an “elite group” of nationally recognized Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools committed to sharing best practices, mentoring others, and fostering continuous improvement, the district said.
“This is a tremendous honor for South Laurel High School, and it is a testament to the incredible work of our students, staff, and faculty. Our school culture is built on high expectations, student achievement, and a commitment to excellence in everything we do. This recognition is proof that our educators are among the best in the nation—dedicated, passionate, and fully committed to the success of every student. I want to personally thank our staff for ‘Doing Their Job’ every day to make South Laurel a place where students thrive,” Dr. Jeremy Kidd, principal of South Laurel High School, said.
The Blue Ribbon Lighthouse designation is awarded for five years.
