Governor Beshear vetoes tolls on new I-69 bridge

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – It appears more likely drivers going between Indiana and Kentucky on the new I-69 bridge will not have to worry about a toll.

Governor Beshear appears to have vetoed portions of a bill that would’ve made it more likely that tolls would have to be paid on the new road. This bill is House Bill 546, and the legislation had required the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project to be partly funded by tolls on Kentuckians.

Governor Beshear explains The Brent Spence Bridge project has no tolls and neither should the I-69 Ohio River Crossing. He says this bill and the tolls it seeks to impose will slow down progress on this “critical project” for Kentucky. Despite Gov. Beshear’s veto, however, the Kentucky General Assembly can still override his veto.
