Gov. Beshear veto against tolls on new I-69 bridge overriden

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Gov. Beshear’s veto on tolls for the new I-69 bridge was overridden on Thursday by the Kentucky General Assembly.

Gov. Andy Beshear appeared to have vetoed portions of a bill that would’ve made it more likely that tolls would have to be paid on the new road. This bill is House Bill 546, and the legislation had required the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project to be partly funded by tolls on Kentuckians.

Gov. Beshear explained that the Brent Spence Bridge project has no tolls, and neither should the I-69 Ohio River Crossing. He says this bill and the tolls it seeks to impose will slow down progress on this “critical project” for Kentucky. Despite Gov. Beshear’s veto, the legislature was overridden.

More details can be seen in the player above, and Gov. Beshear’s rationale behind his veto can be viewed below.
