LONDON, Ky. (WATE) — An 81-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Laurel County, Kentucky after deputies found methamphetamine during a road safety checkpoint.

A traffic safety checkpoint was established on KY-552 approximately seven miles south of London. Around 1:30 p.m., a Laurel County Sheriff’s Office K9 detected the presence of drugs while inspecting a pickup truck.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Deputies located a bag of methamphetamine under the car’s hood and arrested the driver, identified as 81-year-old William Clontz. Investigators determined he was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was operating the vehicle without a valid license.

Clontz was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and multiple traffic violations. Deputies also seized a large quantity of cash.
