1 dead, 5 injured in car crash near Midway

CHICAGO — One person was killed and at least five others injured in a car crash near Chicago’s Midway Airport early Thursday.

According to police, the crash occurred near the intersection of West 55th Street and Central Ave around 3:30 a.m.

Police said a Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound in the 5600 block of West 55th Street when then driver made a U-Turn. The Ford struck a westbound Hyundai Palisade.

Police said the driver of the Ford, a 28-year-old man, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 31-year-old women was also in the car and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 29-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

Police said three people were also in the Hyudai; a 20-year-old woman, a 32-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl. The 32-year-old and the teen are listed in fair condition.

The condition of the 20-year-old is not yet known at this time.

Police are investigating.
