Colton Roger Jones, 18, is facing 30 misdemeanor charges and one third-degree felony in connection to his alleged involvement in the Eagle Mountain burglaries, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and court documents.
Documents say Jones, and three juveniles who remain anonymous due to their age, stole items worth more than $1,500 total from more than a dozen vehicles between the hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday. They also allegedly attempted to use a stolen card multiple times.
Authorities began investigating after receiving “numerous reports” of burglaries throughout the city. Surveillance videos and photos allegedly showed the suspects driving a dark-colored Tesla, which was later found at a Tooele County home, documents say.
Deputies said one of the stolen items had a tracking device installed and they followed that device to a house in Tooele County where they met with one of the juvenile suspects. They then located Jones at another Tooele home “where more items from the vehicle burglaries were located,” documents read.
While he said he did not want to speak to police after being read his Miranda Rights, authorities said he told them the other stolen items and cash were with a different suspect. Most of the stolen items have since been recovered, according to the sheriff’s department.
Jones is facing 18 counts of vehicle burglary, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, one count of criminal mischief, six counts of theft under $500, and four counts of unlawful use of a financial card. All charges are misdemeanors except one theft charge, which is listed as a third-degree felony.
Jones was booked in the Utah County Jail on Sunday morning. The three juveniles are facing similar crimes in the 4th District Juvenile Court.
