Human remains discovered in West Valley pond, investigation underway

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Human remains were discovered in a pond in West Valley City on Tuesday evening, according to police.

Authorities initially received a call about a possible human skull and other bones being found in the water near 4220 West Lake Park Blvd. The West Valley City Police Department said the bones were found near the edge of the pond.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the skull, along with other bones, and confirmed that the remains were human, a spokesperson with WVCPD told ABC4.com.

“The medical examiner‘s office is working to retrieve the remains and will attempt to determine the identity of the person,” WVCPD said in a social media post Tuesday night. “At this time, we have no information about a cause nor manner of death, nor do we have any information to identify the person.”

Officials said the death is being considered a suspicious death, but it is too early to tell if foul play was involved. The investigation is ongoing.

There is no further information at this time.
