Original story: Gas leak in Centerville causes road closures, impacting morning commute

CENTERVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — Authorities are advising the public to avoid the intersection at 400 West Parrish Lane in Centerville due to a gas leak. As of Monday night, the intersection remained closed in all directions, and authorities said the morning commute may be affected.

The Centerville Police Department originally posted on social media Monday afternoon to inform the public that the intersection of 400 N and 400 W was closed in all directions because of the leak.

“Crews are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” police said in a Monday night press release. “It is unknown how long this may take and how long the intersection will remain closed.”

Jorgan Hofeling with Enbridge Gas told ABC4.com that there is no anticipated loss of service, and there is no risk to the public.

Crews were originally dispatched to the area just after 1:30 p.m., after receiving reports that a gas line had been damaged by a construction company. Closing the intersection was deemed necessary because of the size of the damaged gas line, officials said.

“We are asking that motorists, cyclists and pedestrians avoid the area and the intersection until it can be reopened,” Monday’s press release reads.

Officials did not have an estimate for when the intersection would be reopened but said more information would be released as it becomes available.

There is no further information at this time.
