Traditionally, during this time of year, Texas wildflowers, such as Indian Paintbrushes and the Texas state flower, the Bluebonnet, begin to bloom and line the sides of Texas roadways. Unfortunately, due to a variety of unfavorable weather conditions in our area, the sides of the roads won’t be as full of color as in previous years. The assistant manager for the greenhouse at Garden World, Kaja Hove-McGhee, elaborated on the reasons for this.
“Unfortunately, it just didn’t get us cold last year, and we didn’t get as much rain as we usually get. Without those chilly hours, without that extra moisture in the ground, it’s just a lot harder for them to come up this year,” Hove-McGhee shared.
The experts at Garden World say there’s still time to plant bluebonnets in your home garden this season. Just ensure they are well-maintained and watered frequently.
