Suspect accused of stealing from Abilene store as part of national theft ring arrested

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – One suspect accused of stealing from an Abilene department store as part of a national theft scheme has been arrested.

Jensey Herrera-Acosta, charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Fugitive from Justice, and Immigration, was booked into the Taylor County Jail Friday.

Court documents reveal Herrera-Acosta and a second suspect, Yunior Yanes-Baragano, are accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Burlington in Abilene in November 2023.

The documents state surveillance video showed Herrera-Acosta, Yanes-Baragano, and a third, unidentifed suspect enter the store at separate times before meeting up, “with different items and working together to conceal the items and remove sensors and place the stolen items in a black laundry hamper.”

Afterward, the documents state the video showed Herrera-Acosta would keep watch in the parking lot outside while Yanes-Baragano would exit the store while keeping a lookout for employees.

Herrera-Acosta and Yanes-Baragano are part of a group that has been committing similar thefts across the I-20 corridor in Texas all the way to Florida, according to the documents.

News articles also claim they are accused of stealing from Ulta stores across the nation, specifically in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
