Shreveport firefighters learn life-saving extrication skills
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – It’s a terrifying situation no one wants to experience: being trapped in a vehicle after a car crash. Members of the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) recently participated in training to make sure they have the life-saving skills to rescue those who can’t escape.

During the week beginning March 17th, firefighters participated in a 40 hour Vehicle Extrication course. According to SFD, the course covers practical exercises including equipment use, personal safety, response, assessment, hazard control, support operations, access and disentanglement.

An SFD spokesperson said this is another one of the Special Operations Response courses firefighters take to be better prepared to respond to emergencies. They gave a special thanks to the lead instructors for this course Captains Evan Bayton and Captain Jesse Davis.
