ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – On March 25th, or 325 Day, local businesses and organizations are gearing up to celebrate Abilene and its vibrant community. The day, which takes its name from the area code for Abilene and much of the Big Country, marks its fifth year of festivities.

Elizabeth Gray, one of the event’s originators and a representative of the Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, shared that 325 Day was created to lift the community’s spirits after the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the February Freeze of 2021.

“It’s encouraging to businesses to participate in a community-wide event, which is beneficial to them,” Gray said. “This is just a really cool way to get out, have fun just for fun sake, and just to support the community.”

Gray explained that this year, the celebration will feature some exciting changes, including a fun new way for attendees to win even more prizes.

“We’ve actually done 325 Month as well because it is March 2025, so some businesses signed up to participate all month long,” Gray explained.

Kayla Rollins owns K. Ellis Boutique downtown. Her business has participated since the start, and she loves what the day stands for.

“I’ve always been involved with 325 Day. I just like the opportunity to celebrate where we live and where we work and have the community involved as well,” Rollins said. “This is my first baby. So, I just want people to enjoy it just as much as I do. So I think it’s important to support those people’s dreams and their goals as well.”

March 25th is a double celebration for Sweet and Sour Charcuterie as they mark their one-month anniversary of opening. Owner Stephanie Hurtado describes their first month in business as a dream come true and hopes the success continues.

“We love being involved in everything. I love how they get together for absolutely anything and everything. Just seeing them engage in supporting local businesses, like going out,” Hurtado said. “I was not expecting to be this big of a thing since the day we opened; honestly, everybody has shown us how much Abilene can literally support a small business from 0 to 1000 in literally a day.”
