Skeletal remains found in McCreary County identified as man last seen in 2018

MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Skeletal remains found in McCreary County in October 2023 have been identified as a missing Tennesee man.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee, the remains have been identified as William “Will” Cross, who was reported missing in May 2018.

FOX 56 previously reported that the remains were found in a wooded area in Revelo.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NAMUS) confirmed that Cross was last seen alive on May 18, 2018, when he was dropped off on Williamsburg Street in Whitley City.

According to NAMUS, around midnight, he was said to have talked on the phone with someone and said he was walking in the woods. Cross’ phone call then disconnected, and he was not seen alive or heard from again.

On Oct. 15, 2023, officials with Southeast Search and Rescue, Inc. began marking his remains with flags and using a cadaver dog to uncover additional remains found in the woods.
