IMPD: Argument led to shooting on near northwest side; woman arrested

INDIANAPOLIS – An argument led to a Friday afternoon shooting on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 4 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 2900 block of Lafayette Road.

Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Officers detained 69-year-old Paulette Smith at the scene.

Aggravated assault detectives investigated the shooting and spoke to multiple witnesses. They determined Smith had gotten into an argument with the victim before the shooting took place.

Detectives arrested her on a preliminary charge of battery with a deadly weapon. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make a final charging decision.
