A small SUV with a single person inside crashed into the trailer of the semi-truck near mile marker 24 on westbound I-80. The car got stuck under the trailer and caught fire, according to a spokesperson with the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to recover, officials said. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
UHP posted on social media around 6 p.m. to let drivers know that the road was shut down. The closure was later amended so that one lane of the road was open, and UDOT posted an advisory on its traffic website to tell drivers to “expect extended delays.”
The left shoulder of the road was blocked, but the right shoulder was open, UDOT said.
There is no further information at this time.
