22-year-old man killed, passenger critically injured after being ejected from vehicle in crash in West Lawn, police say

CHICAGO — A man was killed and a woman was critically injured after being ejected from their vehicle after colliding with another car Sunday night in the West Lawn neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to Chicago police, a preliminary investigation indicates a black sedan and a silver sedan were both going north in the 7100 block of South Pulaski Road at about 8:30 p.m. The silver sedan was trying to merge from the outer lane to the inner lane when the black sedan hit the rear driver’s side of the silver sedan.

Police say the driver of the black sedan, a 22-year-old man, then lost control of the vehicle and hit a light post in the median. Both he and an adult female passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and the female passenger was taken to an area hospital in critical condition with an injury to the leg.

Meanwhile, police say the man driving the silver sedan and an adult female passenger in that vehicle were not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, and police say Area One detectives are investigating the crash.
