Sunday forecast: Steady rain, strong wind gusts move into Chicagoland by late afternoon hours

It’s not going to be a very pleasant Sunday in Chicagoland.

A cloudy, chilly start to the day will give way to scattered showers in the mid- to late morning hours.

Then, heavier rain moves in around 3 p.m. and lasts through the evening hours, with some embedded thunderstorms also possible. Snow will remain north, but winds will ramp up during the day in Chicagoland, with peak gusts as high as 50 or 60 miles per hour by the evening.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect for the area from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Temperatures, meanwhile, ranged in the 30s around Chicagoland early Sunday morning. Highs will likely top out only in the upper 40s, with significant cloud cover all day.

Temps will remain in the upper 40s to lower 50s for the early part of the coming work week, then mild temps rising into the 60s are in the forecast for the back end of the week.

The extended outlook calls for clouds returning on Tuesday, with highs near 50 and a chance of showers for the morning and again in the late afternoon.

Wednesday looks to be partly sunny and a bit milder, with highs in the mid- to low 50s.

Then, it’s back to the 60s for Thursday, though it will be cooler lakeside for the White Sox home opener, along with a chance of showers. Friday shows more temps in the mid-60s, with showers and clouds.
