STPSO officials said the sergeant was hit by a suspect vehicle while deploying a spike strip on Interstate 10 near the Oak Harbor exit to help with a pursuit on Sunday morning.
The New Orleans Police Department reported that the chase entered Orleans Parish around 12:30 a.m.
NOPD officials said that an NOPD officer’s vehicle entering the interstate to assist the STPSO and the Louisiana State Police was “struck by the perpetrators’ vehicle” near Crowder Boulevard.
According to the NOPD, juveniles were inside the perpetrator’s vehicle.
The NOPD officer and the juveniles were taken to a hospital, where the officer was released, and the juveniles were last reported to be in stable condition.
The STPSO reports that “all perpetrators have been taken into custody.”
The sheriff’s office did not identify the sergeant, and additional information was not provided.
