Shreveport mayor on summer internships, blight, and downtown violence

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport citizens have questions about the community effects of blight on the community, safety, and development downtown. Mayor Tom Arceneaux has answers and an announcement for college students seeking paid internships.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux discussed the 2025 summer internship program, a three-year initiative offering paid six-week internships for college students in various city departments.

He also addressed blight issues, emphasizing the need for community collaboration for redevelopment. He mentioned ongoing efforts to resolve water bill and trash issues in apartment complexes, with progress expected in three complexes.

Finally, he reassured the public about downtown safety, highlighting the city’s surveillance and efforts to address isolated incidents.
